a much CUILer search engine than Google?

www.cuil.com

Cuil, launched on July 28th and founded by ex-Googlers, Tom Costello and Anna Patterson, has one main objective: "to solve the two great problems of search: how to index the whole Internet-not just part of it-and how to analyze and sort out its pages so you get relevant results."

Cuil is incredibly different from Google in several ways. Firstly, Cuil believes that they have found a way to reduce indexing costs, which means they operate their search engine a lot faster and a lot cheaper than rival Google. Whereas Google has been dubbed as the 'Big Brother' of the internet (and maybe even the world ... hello GoogleEarth), Cuil places great emphasis on user privacy. Cuil doesn't collect personally identifiable information, such as IP addresses. Additionally, Cuil's search engine results are organized into three columns, as opposed to Google's lengthy list. The columns, filled with pictures and detailed descriptions, along with the 'search by catagory' box, allows the user to browse the web more effectively and efficiently.

Personally, I really dig their style. The slick black and blue Cuil homepage is ... well ... "easy on the eyes". Plus, I like that when you type in, say, a famous actor (John Cusack), and then press Search, there are THREE COLUMNS OF BEAUTIFUL PICTURES OF HIM!!

Mmmmmmmmmm.

Ahem, but enough about that... back to work...
