Twitter, a free social networking and micro-blogging service, has just surpassed the billionth tweet mark!! Considering that Twitter was created after Facebook, and only really became popular late 2007, the site is doing very well for itself! In early 2008, Twiter expanded and announced through their company blog that they had created a version of Twitter for it's Japanese users. (At this time, Japanese users were the #1 users of Twitter ... not English speaking users!)In the company blog, Twitter wrote: "To support continued growth in Japan, Twitter has formed a partnership with Digital Garage to create the official Twitter Japan service. As part of this arrangement, Digital Garage has made an investment in Twitter, Inc and will commit engineering and other development resources to help us bring Twitter to Japan." One week after its launch, it was reported that the Japanese version of Twitter had started gaining traction; Japanese is now the second most used language on Twitter. Unlike the US service, the Japanese service is advertising supported. (source: Wikipedia)
