"The Internet is just a world passing around notes in a classroom." Jon Stewart2008 is coming to an end and there have been hundreds, if not thousands, of websites that have changed for the best (... and well, for the worst!) Mashable! explores 8 particular designs that have rocked the web.
The most notable design change of 2008? You guessed it... Facebook! Facebook completely changed the face of their site in numerous ways. Some of the best features of Facebook include the new "Publisher" feature on the profile update page, the Wall as the front of the design (before it was at the bottom of the page), and the tab feature and adding applications as tab. Although these changes (in the end!) were positive, many users protested the new design layout, labelling it 'confusing' and 'hard to use'. In fact, I was one of those people!! But now, I can see the silver lining... =]
MySpace also changed their design this year. They rolled out Profile2.0. Profile 2.0 brought easier customization and drag and drop functionality, as well as a number of groovy looking new themes.
Flickr added the Explore option, and the redesign puts emphasis on the social features of the site. Reddit and Last.FM are more organized and information is a lot easier to find! Twitter made small changes: tabs to the right, and small profile editor improvements. Yahoo! has made some huge changes. Now the site is now almost entirely customizable. AOL's redesign (which has not yet been released to its users) has a bunch of widgets to connect users to Facebook, MySpace, AIM, Bebo and Twitter.
Sites that NEED to change:
Friendster - "Come on, arrgggh". The site takes ages to load and it's not very easy to use..
WebTVList - Yikes. Far too much information on one page... I don't know where to start, And now I have a headache.
Pretoria: The Jacaranda City - FIX IT BY 2009!
