The 50 States Project has brought together 50 photographers from across the United States. Each photographer will take pictures that best represent their state. Every two months the photographers will be given an assignment and will each have to product one image. Overall, the 50 States Project exists to capture the essence of America, and what America is today, through snapshots of its residents and places.
The first assignment, "People," was released on The 50 States Project website recently. Check them out here.
Here are a few of my personal favorite snaps from the "People" assignment:

love this chica!
did you see the missouri one? classic!
so strange though because almost every photo had snow in it. do you think thats because most of the US is covered in snow at this time of year, or because snow is a pretty cool thing and makes pictures look more impressive?
sorry, my picture editor-ness coming out! but it's such a cool idea. and if i ever need to commission a US photographer i'm totally looking here for inspiration!!!
LOL Awesome Julia!
You know, you are probably right about the snow... it definitely makes the photos look more impressive. It's interesting though, that most of these photographers had the same idea to capture the same kind of image. Many of them are outdoors, as opposed to indoors, or in a cafe, or a museum.
Also, why are most of the "People" shots taken as head / body shots. Why not action shots? Personally, I love taking pictures "in the moment". I find them more unique and fun to look at.
