In 1521, great explorer Magellan died battling in the Philippines in the midst of his greatest journey, leaving behind a legacy only to be re-told by his cohorts.
It shouldn't have been this way, and it could have been averted using the Where I've Been map.
Yes, perhaps it's a bit far-fetched when the typical 15th-century human owned just a 56K modem, but had the famous explorer embedded a color-coded cartogram to his Xanga, historians agree that the elite broadband users in the Philippines would have have more keen to his flotilla's path and thus more curious to hear out the man's pledges of eternal bondage and Christianity for all. What if...?
But no time to think in hypotheticals! We live in a golden age in which updating your travels is a cinch and the Xanga we once knew is all but dead. We feel really good when blogs choose to mark their trips by embedding the Where I've Been map.
First off, how do you do it?
1. Embed your map with your unique embed code
Head to your Where I've Been profile and to the Where I've Been tab. Below your map, you'll find "I want to embed my map on another site, like a blog," which will provide you with your unique HTML embed code so you can add your Where I've Been map to your blog. You can use this on most traditional blogging platforms, and with recent Blogger upgrades the Where I've Been map looks better than ever in your right-hand column. Head to the "Layout" tab to play around with the best position to show off your map.
Developer Nic Myers created a plugin for WordPress blogs to easily embed their maps.
Now that you've got it down pat, here are a few shining examples of travelers embedding the right way and a word about their travels:
1. Checking Off Everywhere
It started with an awesome ultimatum -- "Will you marry me?" "Only if you take me around the world." "Fine." -- and 56 days into the journey, Mike and Christine (left) have lived up to the pact. Their funny Planning Stages blog has given way to the meat-and-potatoes travel log, which kicked off in Peru and has since taken them to the Ecuador jungle, and their trip has taken a few twists for the unexpected. Sounds like a good marriage crash course, does it not?
They creatively embedded their map with a handy legend next to it. Mike and Christine's sights are set on New Zealand, South Africa, China, and India. Safe travels, guys.
2. Study Abroad Program - University of Alabama at Birmingham
Many of our favorite new mappers get their start as starry-eyed study abroad-ers. The Study Abroad office at the University of Alabama at Birmingham puts their wide array of opportunities on full display using the Where I've Been map. Their past participants have painted seemingly every corner of the globe, from popular sites like France, China and Australia to more original choices in Ghana, Zambia, Taiwan, Honduras and Senegal.
3. UTOPIA: El Blog de Andres Ortiz Moyano
Andres Ortiz Moyano's clean Wordpress blog (all Spanish) talks about everything from video games to politics to yes, his travels and positions his Where I've Been map comfortably on the sidebar. Andres, currently stationed in Sevilla, Spain, has seen much of Europe and has a lot of green space marked in Asia, South America and Africa.
No one has trademarked DondeEsEstado.com -- we better get on top of that.

Genial post and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Say thank you you on your information.
Not using Wordpress for my main blog - is there a Blogger plugin also?
Unfortunately there's no Blogger plugin as of now; the best bet would be to place it directly into your HTML in the "Layout" portion of the Blogger suite. The new Blogger, by the way, is fantastic (draft.blogger.com) and makes it really easy. Let me know if you have any questions there.
We're almost finished with our API, though, which will allow developers the ability to adapt and build upon our existing map, and when that day comes the likelihood of more plugins will increase greatly.
I've tried to embed my map in my Wordpress blog using the code, but it doesn't work (tried both in the visual and HTML window). I cannot use the plugin either because I have a wordpress.com blog. Am I doing something wrong or is there another way? Cheers
Try this WordPress Movie Plugin it was developed and designed specifically to automate your WordPress Movie Website!!!
I love blogger, easy to handle although not so many plugins available
What do you think concerning adding some more pics? I’m not trying to offend anyone, page is really nice. Just as I’ve heard visitors acquire information much more efficient when they see certain useful pictures.
