I've found that the best thing that works for me is to just continue my schedule as usual.
Essentially ignore the time difference and keep on trucking.
Go to bed at as much of a normal time as possible. No naps. etc.
I guess its a case of forcing your body to adjust.
The best thing that I've found to do is to eat on the schedule of the timezone you're in... whether you're really hungry or not. This has me feeling normal again within a day. I also take a nap that first day if I'm just feeling totally run down, but generally speaking I try to stay awake until a reasonable bed time to start getting my sleep schedule normalized. The eating thing really helps a lot though.
If my flight is arriving in the morning/early afternoon, I just won't sleep for the 20-24 hours before the flight leaves. Then, it's all too easy to pass out on the plane and then wake up on arrival, refreshed and ready to go.
Haven't really got any technique for arriving at night yet. Need to work on that
Usually sleeping pills do the trick for me. Forces me to quickly adjust to the new sleeping schedule.

I vote for sleeping pills, as well. I have aerophobia and tehre is no other way to survive a flight.
