Planning a Budget Trip to Portugal?
3 Albufeira Day Trips Not to be Missed

The Algarve region of Portugal has for many years been a favorite getaway location for holiday makers and travelers from around Europe and beyond. In the central region of the Algarve sits Albufeira, where in the old town cobbled streets give home to bars, cafes, local shops and restaurants. These streets eventually lead down to the marina and the beautiful beaches which make the whole region so famous and one of the best places for cheap Portugal holidays.

But there is more to Albufeira than this. In fact, if you are travelling with family, children or on your own, you will be spoilt for choice if you want to get away from the beach and do something a little bit different when here.

Zoomarine

If you like theme parks and marine life, you’ll love the Zoomarine. This 8 hectare site consists of rides, aquariums, shops, 4D cinemas and lots, lots more. There is even the opportunity to interact with trained bottlenose dolphins. Zoomarine is best described as a theme park that is centered on marine life – it is the perfect place to visit if you want to get away from the beach for a day or if you have children to entertain. Entrance prices are reasonable too – always a bonus! It is located just 10km outside of Albufeira so is easily accessible.

The beauty of Albufeira

Go on a ‘Seafari’
From Albufeira it is possible to catch one of the Algarve’s ‘Seafaris’, which involves you being picked up by boat and then taken on a tour of several of Europe's largest caves which can be explored, along with some stunning rock formations along the Algarve coast. You will also be fed with a wholesome lunch, before cooling off in the sea and even doing a bit of dolphin watching if you are lucky. These tours are operated daily and trips can also include fishing if this sounds more appealing! Such trips are popular elsewhere, such as on cheap turkey holidays for example, and are just so here now too.

The pristine beaches of Albufeira

Cycle the Algarve

If you love being active and cannot imagine being sat on a beach for a few weeks straight, one option is to take to your bike and explore the local area. You can explore the coastline or even take to the hills which surround the Albufeira area. Pretty fishing villages such as the one found at Ferragudo can be reached without too much effort and there you will find tourist-free streets, fabulous Portuguese restaurants and an insight in local life not possible in the built up areas that attract the vast majority of visitors.

Albufeira is an ideal location for people looking for fun filled holidays or trips to Portugal. With plenty going on in and outside of the immediate area, you will never find yourself looking for things to do. And if you do not want to do anything strenuous, just stick the beautiful Albufeira beaches! If you have ever been on Tenerife holidays and enjoyed them, you’ll love the Algarve region too – both have similar positives that attract all sorts every year!
